Dust Bowl Photo A woman with her three children. The woman stands out the most because her face is facing the camera. The two children are turned away, which give the impression of either a childhood timidness, or perhaps a sadness which leads them to lean on their mothers shoulders. The woman’s face is the first thing that struck me. She looks concerned, weathered and tired. She looks hopeless, there is no light left in her eyes. It looks as though her situation has aged her, she looks older than she probably is. I didn’t notice the baby right away, and once I did my first reaction was that the child was dirty and probably uncomfortable. However, after the discussion in class, I can also understand how the baby represents a peace and an innocence in a time of pain and struggle.
